Anchor - Harm Prevention Devices
The Anchor is an umbrella term for a series of devices to mimic a pain response to deter self harmers from creating lasting damage when they self harm or people with “grounding” difficulties giving them a squeeze to pull them back to this moment. It does this with a series of very pointy spikes.
I have a few versions of these Anchor prints. I wanted to have a reason for anyone to carry it without drawing unnecessary suspicion. First, was “Balm”, the Chapstick case, as I find myself attacking my lips when I get anxious. It has a ball in track lock so no need to spin to find the threads. A pimple in the groove acts as a lock preventing the cap from falling off. “Fig” came revised a 3×3 fidget square model with just all of the spikes. Then I made “Lite” and “Clip” the bic and clipper lighter case, respectively. I was opposed to this at first, because I don’t want to promote playing with fire, but I figure it has a usefulness to it which might weigh in its favor. Lastly, I figured it was a great massage roller type tool, so I have a double long one with a wooden dowel inside it for reinforcement, which I call Roll.
I have over 50 colors to choose from. look in “color swatches” to find what you like. If you are interested in multi color or with custom fonts, text, sayings, logos, etc. I do have a multi color printer that can make those. Please reach out directly if you want something custom first, or bulk orders over 25
If you are wondering where the name comes from: I was given a book called “It’s kind of a funny story” There was a movie made from it, doesn’t do the book justice. In it, this high school boy contemplates jumping off a bridge, goes to the hospital instead, and is checked into a mental ward. Through therapy, he finds his stressors which he calls tentacles, and things that make him feel good, which he calls anchors. Bam.
Here are a few testimonials and anecdotal comments. If you would like to share if these helped, please leave a review or contact me directly and I will post it anonymously.
One of the girls I work with had some cuts on her legs. I inquired if they were self done. She said yes, and I gave her my last balm. A week later she confided in me that she had not harmed in a week.
I met a therapist and psychiatrist at work and she bought two dozen balms. She’s passed out most of them to people with PTSD at her clinic, and an 11 year old girl who has been harming. Without breaking any HIPA, she said they are helping.
I mailed the purple and black balm to someone in the UK who has had it on her bag every day since she got it. She claims she’s giving it a squeeze multiple times a day to breathe and relax a bit.
I have sold close to 50 of the fig ones. Now if that’s because it’s a good fidget or spikey is debatable.
